How to choose an installer
I'm sure you are thinking that
I'm going to try to persuade you to choose us. Of
course I hope you do, but I won't do that. It is
crucial that you know that we
are not all the same, and the job will not turn out the
same no matter who does it. Consider the
following:
The contractor must be
licensed.
- Everyone will tell you they are
licensed. Don't believe them.
You need to check with the
Contractor State License Board to know for sure.
It's easy. Just click the link and type in the
name. You
will be shocked to see how many unlicensed guys are
on the internet posing as real contractors.
Licensed contractors should always have their
license # on their website or vehicle, but it
doesn't hurt to check. A sure sign someone is
NOT licensed is if they
have a website saying things like, "insured,
certified, professional, etc." If they don't
say the word "LICENSED" they aren't.
The contractor should be
familiar with the latest technology.
- Take the time to ask the installer about the
latest technology like 3D or versions of
HDMI cables. If he isn't familiar with the
topics, he isn't keeping up with the market.
Compare apples to
apples.
- One contractor might be installing a bare bones
system while another is providing you with modern
technology and an easy to use custom remote control.
Take time and ask each contractor about specific
items on the bid. Don't just go with the
lowest price. You will regret it later.
Make sure you feel
comfortable with all your purchases and don't be afraid
to say "No."
Find out what equipment
and material you can get through him.
Ask about his warranties.
-
It is extremely important to
find out if he will handle the warranty claims or if
you have to take care of it yourself. If you
have to handle the claims with the manufacturer,
forget about it. Go somewhere else. The
contractor should go to your house, remove the
faulty equipment, and handle the claims himself.
He shouldn't charge you anything extra for
re-installation either.
